Position Statement: Solar Farms and the High Weald

We have published a Position Statement to help inform planning decisions for large-scale solar farms on greenfield sites within, or affecting the setting of, the High Weald National Landscape.

The Position Statement has been prepared in collaboration with the 15 local authorities in the High Weald, and supplements and supports the AONB Management Plan.

The Position Statement includes:

• a broad overview of climate change and the High Weald National Landscape
• the national legislative and policy basis for considering solar farms in National Landscapes
• the specific issues for solar farms and the High Weald National Landscape, including impacts on landscape character, farming capacity and the agricultural economy, and wildlife and biodiversity
• the potential for alternative solutions, including rooftop solar and smaller-scale installations.
