About the High Weald Walking Festival

An extensive network of footpaths, bridleways and ancient byways makes the High Weald National Landscape a walker’s paradise – so come and explore it with us! Now in its seventh year, the High Weald Walking Festival offers a packed programme of guided and self-guided walks every September – completely free of charge.

From avid ramblers and nature spotters to history buffs and photography fans, there’s something for everyone to enjoy; or you can simply take in the view. There will be circular walks from train stations, accessible walks and family-focused walks, too – not to mention a suite of downloadable self-guided walks, allowing you to explore the High Weald at your own pace.

Last year’s Festival was a huge success, with more than 500 walkers turning out to enjoy the fine weather. The programme included special tours of Bedgebury Pinetum, Buchan Country Park, Worth Abbey, RSPB Broadwater Warren and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Walkers learned about the High Weald’s Dark Skies with an evening stargazing walk on the Ashdown Forest; others discovered the area’s rich hop-picking history in Goudhurst. Several routes explored sections of the High Weald Landscape Trail.

The High Weald Walking Festival is a collaboration between the High Weald National Landscape Partnership and four local Ramblers groups: High Weald Walkers, Rother Ramblers, Battle Ramblers and Mid Sussex Ramblers.
