The Original Hut Company is a cluster of 4 homemade self-catering glamping huts located in a quiet woodland on a family farm. The huts are based on the idea of vintage shepherd huts, but have been adapted to offer sleeping accommodation for 4-5 people. They are double glazed and heated by wood burning stoves and equipped with a gas hob and sink with a portable water supply. Solar panels enable 12 volt lighting, making the huts very user-friendly and causing minimal light pollution. Wash facilities are provided in a separate hut which houses 2 loos and 2 piping hot showers for communal use. An outside fire pit is provided for each hut along with specialist cooking equipment and an endless supply of wood. All bedding and cooking equipment is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
The farm is set in the tiny village of Bodiam, home to the National Trust's beautifully preserved Bodiam Castle. This is within easy walking distance, through cider orchards and across a couple of fields. The Kent and Sussex Steam Railway runs along the edge of the farm and the River Rother flows through the bottom. The river here is little more than a stream, but offers beautiful flora and fauna, and an abundance of wildlife. It's a great place to just sit and be, picnic, fish or splash about. They have the Hub cafe which sources local produce to provide you with lovely homecooked food and snacks.
Having spent a lot of time and effort developing sustainable accommodation that works in harmony with the environment, the owners of the Original Hut Company tend to attract guests with an interest in the landscape. The owners are on hand to show people changes that have occurred in the immediate woodland and offer advice on all aspects of rural life within this beautiful landscape from foraging to farming, forestry to fishing and everything in between.
They work to promote other local businesses/attractions who are offering learning experiences, the most local is Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard; and show the footpath route to find it on the map of the farm as well as details of the woodland and vineyard trail. The Welcome Notes also provide details of other local things to see and do to enhance guests' experience of the landscape.
